The HRD ministry is all set to launch a new ambitious project of live telecasting the lectures from 6 IITs across the country. The Ministry will soon launch 32 Direct-to-Home channels to provide live telecast of the lectures from 6 IITs and some other top institutions.
Two transponders on the GSAT series satellites have been provided by the department of space for the ambitious project. The HRD ministry has signed MOU’s with many institutions for providing the lessons and content to be beamed on these channels.
The six IITs which will be the teaching ends are the IITs located in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Guwahati. The ministry will also includes about dozens of other top institutions for the live telecast of the classroom lectures through these channels.
The HRD ministry is working hard enough to ensure that these channels are on air in next couple of months. These channels will be freely available on Doordarshan’s FreeDish DTH platform. However, a Set Top Box will be required to receive the channels.
According to some sources, the channels are to be operationalised by August this year.
