Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana is a scheme in Madhya Pradesh to provide financial assistance to poor, needy, destitute families for marrying off their daughters. The state government has made some changes to the scheme from November 1st 2016.
As per the new changes, girls who get married under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana will now get Rs 17000 from November 1, 2016. The girl will be provided an account payee cheque of Rs. 17000 at the mass marriage program under the scheme.
Originally launched in April 2006, the scheme is being carried out by the social justice department in the state. The eligible girl applicants whose age is same or above the fixed age for marriage and is financially poor can avail the scheme benefits. However, financial support is not provided in cash to the beneficiaries.
Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, there is a provision of providing Rs 25,000 per girl. Out of 25000, 17 thousand rupees will be provided through cheque on the spot during the mass marriage ceremony. Earlier an amount of Rs. 7000 was transferred to the girl’s saving bank account on the second day after marriage to purchase necessary household items. Now this amount will be included in this Rs. 17000 cheque.
Moreover, Rs 5000 given for necessary items for marriage rituals and Rs. 3000 given towards expenses of rural/urban bodies to hold group marriage programme will remain as it is.
