Bihar government has launched Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojana (MVPY) for all vridha people above 60 years of age. This universal old age pension scheme (मुख्यमंत्री वृद्धजन पेंशन योजना) comes into force from 1st April 2019. Under this Bihar Mukhyamantri Vridha Pension Yojana, govt. will provide Rs. 400 monthly pension to all eligible senior citizens through DBT mode.
This Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Scheme 2019 aims to make all the senior citizens self reliant and to enable them to lead a life of dignity. In other states, old age pensions are provided to members of either BPL families or SC / ST or widows or disabled persons. But in Bihar, every senior citizen above 60 years age if not getting pension from state / central govt. would get pension under Vriddha Pension Yojana.

The state govt. of Bihar is inviting online as well as offline applications for Bihar Old Age Pension Scheme from 1 April 2019. There would be no caste, religion or community barrier for availing benefits of Universal Old Age Pension Scheme.
Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojana 2019
The state govt. of Bihar has launched Mukhyamantri Vridhajan Pension Yojana (MVPY) 2019 to ensure that people above 60 years of age gets monthly pension amount of Rs. 400. To avail Universal Old Age Pension Scheme (मुख्यमंत्री वृद्धजन पेंशन योजना) benefits, candidates must follow the following eligibility criteria:-
- A candidate must be a permanent resident of Bihar.
- All the senior citizens above the age of 60 years are eligible for Universal Old Age Pension Scheme in Bihar.
- All those senior citizens who have retired from government services are NOT eligible.
- Senior Citizens from any caste, community and religion are eligible for Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Yojana in Bihar.
Currently, the universal old age pension scheme is applicable to only the below poverty line (BPL) category. But now all people in the age group of 60 to 79 years will get Rs. 400 p.m as pension and above 80 years will get Rs. 500 p.m as pension. This scheme would cover around 35 to 36 lakh families in the state of Bihar ad the state govt. would make an annual expenditure of Rs. 1800 crore.
CM has also announced a pension of Rs. 6,000 for journalists above 60 years of age. All those people who have have been in regular service in the area of media person and not getting any pension would be eligible for Bihar Patrakar Samman Yojana (BPSY). Till date, around 2 lakh applicants have applied for the pension under the New Bihar Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension Scheme. After verification, a total number of 1,35,928 applicants were found eligible.
BPSY scheme for media persons is also going to be implemented from 1st April 2019 to ensure that more people opt for becoming journalists.
