5,45,090 Affordable Houses Sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 5,45,090 Affordable Houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U). Subsequently, this scheme will provide houses to the urban poor. Central government approves an investment of Rs. 31,003 crore including central assistance of Rs. 8,107 crore. This scheme is to provide Pucca houses to the poor people.

Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) took this decision in the 29th meeting held on 27 December 2017. As per the decision, govt. will build new houses in Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh.

Latest Update – 1.86 lakh more Affordable houses are approved under PMAY in 30th Meeting of Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) and 1.28 lakh more houses in the 31st Meeting of the CSMC.

PMAY-Housing for All (PMAY-HFA) scheme aims at providing Affordable Houses to the economically weaker sections, low income group & medium income groups. PMAY (U) is launched by the central govt. to realize the dream of “Housing For All” in the urban areas till the financial year 2022.

Number of Houses Under AHP Component of PMAY-HFA (U)

Central govt. sanctions 2,63,284 Affordable Houses under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) Component of PMAY-HFA whose distribution is as follows:-

  1. Andhra Pradesh – 1,18,485 houses
  2. Karnataka – 1,09,904 houses
  3. Uttar Pradesh – 18,598 houses
  4. Madhya Pradesh – 10,008 houses
  5. Jharkhand – 6,289 houses

Affordable Houses Under BLC Component of PMAY (U)

Central govt. sanctions 2,35,492 houses under Beneficiary Led Component (BLC) of PMAY-HFA (U) whose distribution is as follows:-

  • Uttar Pradesh – 1,02,047 houses
  • Madhya Pradesh – 90,333 houses
  • Andhra Pradesh – 23,962 houses
  • Jharkhand – 10,408 houses
  • Karnataka – 8,742 houses

Central govt. will provide financial assistance to the beneficiaries for the construction of houses on the land which is owned by the beneficiary. Moreover after the final approval from CSMC, the total number of houses under PMAY-HFA (U) will become 36,00,819. Furthermore, the total number of houses funded under PMAY (U) will increase to 37,42,667 houses after incorporation of houses under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY Scheme).
